In a particularly tumultuous time for healthcare, for Yale New Haven Hospital remained steadfast in its pursuit of greater value for our patients throughout 2017. That translated into enhanced safety and quality and a better patient experience, while continuing to reduce the cost of care.

Demand for Hospital services increased, largely driven by complex referral volume and strategic growth in selected service. With an increased focus on delivering patient care in outpatient settings, inpatient discharges dropped slightly, while outpatient visits were higher than last year. YNHH continued to treat many of Connecticut's sickest patients, and transfers of acute patients to YNHH from other healthcare organizations the highest ever this year. More than 7,387 patients were admitted through the Y Access program – 8 percent higher than last year. 

In its role as the flagship hospital of Yale New Haven Health, YNHH led efforts to Integrate and innovate care solutions with our System providers and our partners at the Yale School of Medicine.

Yale New Haven earned much recognition in 2017 as an employer and provider. Of note, the Hospital was nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report in nine adult specialties and eight pediatric specialties.

Our achievements this year would not have been possible without the commitment and contributions of our physicians, employees and volunteers, as well as the guidance and commitment of our board members and the generous support of donors and friends in the community. Your collective contributions ensure that Yale New Haven Hospital continues its service to others.
